The D’Arenberg Cube

The D’Arenberg Cube

Whether you’re in England or Asia, the US or Australia, you’ve likely drunk a wine from McLaren Vale, which sits alongside the Barossa Valley as one of South Australia’s premier wine regions.

The interior uses stark triangular lines as well.
This abstract affair is the D’Arenberg Cube, the centrepiece of the wine experience at D’Arenberg vintners.

On entering, you’re greeted by this bibulous gentleman.

Squeeze the bulb to release the scent of apple.
Then through into a dark and fabulous aromas room, where you squeeze the bulb to get a blast of the main aromatics you’ll find in wine.

Then, via a video, to the owner’s art collection, which is, whisper it, not terribly good.

Bowl, decanters and sculpted grapes in the tasting room.
And up to one of the main events, the tasting room.

The D'Arenberg Cube looks inspired by Rubik's Cube.
The Cube looks as good from the inside as it does from the outside but the wines on the standard list are for cellaring, not drinking now, so as a taster you’ll need your futurist head on. (Their Footbolt Shiraz is great.)

Ripening grapes at D'Arenberg Winery
Around the estate, besides the ripening grapes, there are restaurants, a wine shop, and a giant bottle or two. It’s an excellent way to spend a South Australian morning.
